I Puʻuhuluhulu Kō Wehi

by Chad Takatsugi

I Puʻuhuluhulu kō wehi ē

ʻAʻaliʻi kūpaʻa i ka wili hio

Ka hiʻona hiehie a ka wahine

Lei mau ana i ke kapu

Kapukapu ē ka ʻohu pale mauna ē

I laila au lā e ola ai

ʻŌlalilali mai ē ka piko

Waiau, wai kamahaʻo

Hao aku ana lā ke Kaiāulu ē

A he hoa makamaka nou e Kalani

Lālani nā maka o ka ʻāina

Ua ola i ka pōhaku

Haku ʻia nei ʻohu me ka ʻihiʻihi

Paʻa mau i ke aloha no ka ʻāina

Nou e ka wahine noho anu ia wehi

ʻO Maunakea i ka hano

<解説>

At Pu'uhuluhulu is your adornment

The 'a'ali'i standing firmly in the swirling gusts

The woman's presence is elegant

Forever wreathed in sacredness

Noble is the mountain-guarding mist

It is there where I am rejuvenated

The piko glimmers

Waiau, wondrous waters

The Kaiāulu wind gathers in full force

A true ally for you, heavenly one

The faces of the 'āina stand in rows

And are nourished by stones

This adornment is fashioned with reverence

And fastened by our love for our land

For you, the woman who dwells in the cold, is this honor

Oh honorable Maunakea
